Nintendo Q4 2023 Financial Report: The Switch is likely to be the best-selling console in Nintendo’s history and has just released its financial report for the third quarter of fiscal year 2024, the last three months of 2023. In the last three months of last year alone, the Switch has sold 6.9 more units worldwide, with total sales since its launch in March 2017 of 139.36 million units.
Of the seven million Nintendo Switch units sold in the fourth quarter of 2023, there were 3.48 million OLED Switches, Switch Lite accounted for 1.27 million; and “normal” Switch V2 versions sold 2.15 million. Nintendo said, “Although market sales declined over the same period last year, the figure remains stable in terms of the Switch, which has been around for more than six years.”
With approximately 140 million units sold in seven years, Nintendo’s unique hybrid slot machine has the chance to surpass the PlayStation 2, with sales of 158 million in its lifetime, to become the best-selling slot machine in history. The top three are the PS2 (158 million), the Nintendo DS (154 million), and the Nintendo Switch (139 million).
While many people are expecting Nintendo to sell its next gaming machine this year, Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, told Bloomberg that the Switch will be the key to the company’s business strategy this year. In October last year, Mr. Furukawa asserted the same thing, but then edited his words to the Switch that Nintendo would be “focused on until March 2024.”.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom sold 20.28 million copies. Last November, Nintendo announced 19.5 million copies, which means that in the last three months of the year, Tears of the Kingdom sold an additional 780,000 copies. Newly released, unique, and outstanding, Super Mario Wonder sold 11.96 million copies. Super Mario RPG reached 3.14 million copies. And of course, the game that makes a lot of people choose to buy the Switch to play with friends or even kids, Super Mario Kart 8, is still the best-selling game on the Switch, with sales of 60.58 million copies.
As for business results, on Tuesday, when Nintendo released its fourth-quarter financial report for 2023, it said sales fell 6%, reaching a profit of $1.2 billion, higher than predicted. The Nintendo Switch also proves that its age keeps the attraction steady. The best-selling console in the U.S. is Sony’s PS5. Nevertheless, with exclusive games for all ages, the Nintendo Switch at the age of seven is still a popular game, even though most have owned the machine for themselves to enjoy the good games.
